Hardwood Artisans Studio Line

After building furniture for 30 years, we have collected some pretty talented craftsmen. And since we also collect some pretty interesting figured wood that we don’t generally use in our standard pieces, the two have coalesced into what we call the Hardwood Artisans Studio Line. We provide the time and materials, the craftsman provides the design and the expertise and our customers get completely unique pieces in gorgeously figured wood that will never be made again.

Last week before the Lemonade Social, the Washington Spaces blog did a story on the event and featured some of these Studio Line pieces. Two of the pieces sold over the weekend at the Lemonade Social, but we still have the others available for sale.

“An Artisanal Office” on Washington Spaces blog

Remember the article Washington Spaces wrote about us back in January? The writer, Jennifer Sergent, also writes for the Washington Spaces blog and yesterday she posted an entry on one of our most recent custom built-in projects.

Because we show mostly standard furniture in our showrooms, not everyone realizes that we actually do quite a bit of custom furniture as well as built-in bookcases, cabinetry and other work to customer or designer specifications.

This project involved a modification to one of our standard Panel beds, a built-in custom desk and open shelving and a custom file cart masquerading as a rolling bench. The entire office had a custom lacquer finish on it rather than our usual hand-rubbed Danish oil finish.

The end result was a highly functional office/bedroom in the tiniest of spaces, which Hardwood Artisans has been specializing in since we started out as the Loft Bed Store in 1976.
